Highlights of December 20th 2016 Raritan Borough Council Meeting
Meeting was broadcast on "Cablevision-Optimum" Ch 15 & "Verizon FIOS" Ch 37.
Councilman Robert McGinley was absent.
The Mayor and Council thanked Councilman Andrew Sibilia
as it was his last meeting after serving a three year term.
Evan Vacchiano was sworn is to The Raritan Police Force. His position is "Probationary Patrol Officer".
A 2007 graduate of Morris Hills High School, Evan received a
bachelor's degree in MDS studies from West Virginia University
in 2012. He worked as a Class I and Class II Officer for the
Seaside Park Police Department from April 2013 till present.
Starting in January 2017, Evan will periodically attend the
Monmouth County Police Academy as a waiver trainee. The additional
training is required for officers who hold Class II PTC Certifications
in order for them to become fulltime officers. Evan will also be
assigned to a training officer during which time he will go
through Raritan Police Department 9 week Field Training Program.

The town received several bids for repair of the Anderson Street Firehouse.
Seven bids came in. The town (usually) is required to take the lowest bid.
That was from Woodward Construction for $205,440.
The basement, the second floor insulation, and roof need work.
An "Exhaust System" needs to be installed & the sump pump needs to be replaced.
Other Meeting Highlights Include:

The town is looking to add additional parking spaces for the train station.
The area for this was described as "East of Thompson Street along the railroad tracks."
Currently there is a shortage of parking spaces.
The engineer said the proposed plan would add 23 extra spaces.
The council voted to allow the engineer to move forward with the study.
Some engineering and landscaping would need to be done.
In addition, another 15 spaces could be come available from another lot that is for sale.

An updated Noise Ordinance was passed.

The Basilone Parade Weekend will no longer have the concert at the Raritan Valley Theatre.
Instead there will be some activities after the parade.
(It was not mentioned specifically at the meeting but the activities after the parade will include
a Rock N Roll Band playing at the Basilone Statue and a "Patriotic Art Contest" for kids of all ages.
This year's parade will be Sunday, September 24th at 1 PM.

A new electrical system was installed at the Raritan Library

Purchase Orders were approved:
Fire Department - Thermal Imaging Camera - Continental Fire and Safety, Inc. for $4,160.76
Fire Department - Extrication Equipment - FFI Professional Safety Services for $27,914.83
Tax & Finance- Software - Edmunds for $6,766.00
Administration - End of the Year Asset Inventory - Acclaim Inventory for $1 ,600.00
