Highlights of January 24th 2017 Raritan Borough Council Meeting
Meeting was broadcast on "Cablevision-Optimum" Ch 15 & "Verizon FIOS" Ch 37.
Councilman Robert McGinley was absent.
Councilman Zack Bray reported:
"Operation Jersey Cares" which has been stationed in Raritan next to
Stop & Shop for years, believes that they will soon need a new location.
(They had been able to occupy that location rent free.)
This volunteer group sends packages to the troops overseas.
They are putting the word out that they are looking for a new location
and that they would like to stay in Raritan.
The town will invite them to the next meeting.

The Raritan Recreation Committee was replaced by two new committees:
A "Team Sports Committee" and a "Community Programs and Events Committee".
Appointments to The "Team Sports Committee" were Ken Roll, Nicole Patente, and Kevin Statichi.
For the "Community Programs and Events Committee" the members are:
Fred Sinagra, George Wells, Rob McGinley (Jr), Frank LoCascio, Shannon Maher & Kim Gabota.
Other Meeting Highlights Include:

The proposed salary increase for the Mayor and Council was voted down 4-1.
Councilman Foohey was the lone "yes" vote.
(It was stated at previous meetings that the purpose of this increase was to encourage
people to run for council. Last election saw three people run unopposed.)
The vote surprsied some as at a previous meeting it appeared that this proposal had much more support.

Craig Monda was promoted to Police Lieutenant at an annual salary of $107,538

James Raniere was promoted to Police Sergeant at an annual salary of $100,956.

Daniel Memoli was appointed full-time laborer for Public Works.

Christine Torres was appointed to the Library Board of Trustees.

The town calendar should be available sometime next week.
It will not be mailed out, but can be picked up at 26 locations around town
including the Municipal Building and the Raritan Library.
